MOORESTOWN, NJ — Tucked inside the vast greenery of Moorestown's Tom Brown Road is a six-bedroom, 11-bathroom, four-fireplace estate built for a business mogul. Its design was inspired by Old World Europe and Hindu architecture alike.
Details include French glass balcony doors, a tub originally built for Beyoncé and a 34-foot wall of windows overlooking the 16-acre property. The 18,000-square-foot mansion, listed two weeks ago, has an asking price of $5.5 million.
"When you're looking at that window, because it's like 16 acres, it's like looking over like a golf course," said Melissa Young, a realtor of the Drayton Young Group of Compass, in the Sports & Entertainment Division.
There aren't many homes like 326 Tom Brown Rd. But there aren't many homeowners quite like the late Dinesh Desai, who died in March.
Desai, 74, was born in a small village in India — two years after the nation freed itself from British colonial rule. His family was part of the Indian Independence Movement.
After moving to the United States for higher education, Desai became a successful engineer in the Philadelphia area. He ultimately settled in Moorestown. His home, placed on the market two weeks ago, took nine years to build.
The home complies with the principles of Vastu Shastra — a traditional system of Hindu architecture that promotes spiritual well-being. There are three kitchens, a private glass office and an outdoor pickleball and tennis court.
The basement's amenities include a Topgolf room, gym, home theater, kid's playroom, game room and wine cellar. The home also has multiple stone tubs — one of which was originally designed for Beyoncé herself.
"I heard that it was made six inches too big," Young told Patch. "So they ended up purchasing it from the designer."
