The Show Your Home feature has often highlighted homes that have every detail thought of and every thinkable amenity. But, every so often, a house comes along that blows your socks off and is like nothing you’ve ever seen before like this home at 1561 Sunset Road.
Situated on two completely fenced-in acres in Brentwood, this house is a custom-built, award-winning Parade of Homes showstopper.
“It has a nice combination of very high end and family-friendly that you don’t see very often,” says Tristan Kinsley, the listing agent with Compass Nashville. “The orientation of the house was built with the landscape in mind. Like its name suggests, it has amazing sunsets. It’s close to all of the amenities of Brentwood and has a small town charm and community feel being so close to Nolensville.”
The six-bedroom, 8.5 bath is listed for $8,999,999. Custom built by Paul Huff of Stonegate Homes (who was born and raised in Nashville), it utilizes the latest technology and has won numerous awards, due to Huff’s design and vision. The property has double gates that open onto a circular paved driveway, allowing ample guest parking within the horseshoe, and a side entrance carport that leads to a paved courtyard and parking area with a five-car garage complete with a dog-washing station.
On the other side of the courtyard is a man cave/recreation room that has a wet bar with a kegerator and enough space for a pool table, juke box, entertainment screens and arcade games. Upstairs, a loft has a seating area and a home gym.
Gray flagstone steps lead to the front entrance, flanked by tastefully trimmed landscaping. The front doors are iron French doors with rectangular panes of glass and matching sidelights. Opening the front doors, you’re greeted by a grand foyer with checkerboard flooring and a double staircase leading to the second floor. There's wainscoting along the walls, adding an old world feel.
To the left of the foyer is the formal dining room. It has wood floors, divided walls with an elegant wallpaper on the top half and shaker millwork paneling on the bottom and a pair of elegant beaded chandeliers. Through the foyer, the heart of the house is a combined living and dining space. The focal point of the living room is the fireplace, which faces the open chef’s kitchen.
The kitchen has double islands with marble countertops and seating, each with a contemporary chandelier above it with cylindrical crystals. The back wall is painted black, playing off the grain in the marble backsplash. There are herringbone wood floors, built-in cabinets and open shelving. It has a black and gold Blue Star range with a pasta faucet and a separate pantry, wine cellar with wall racking and a huge wine fridge. The walk-in pantry has ample shelving and food storage space, while the cook’s kitchen connects to the dining room and has an oven, bar, beverage fridge, sink and ample storage space for dishware.
Through the kitchen and living space, French doors that mimic the front doors lead to the back patio, which exemplifies indoor/outdoor living. Made of flagstone, under a wood covered patio is a seating area with a fireplace, dining area and a full outdoor kitchen with grill and Big Green Egg. The pool area has a hot tub that creates a waterfall into the pool. There’s a gas fire pit on the other side of the hot tub, and on one side of the pool, a built-in TV that comes up from the ground.
The hallway that leads to the main floor bedroom spaces has vaulted arches that are almost cloister-like in their design, with pendant globe chandeliers that give it a regal hacienda feel.
The primary suite is spacious and full of natural light (plus chandelier lighting) with wide board wood floors, and its own sitting room at one end with paned windows on two sides. The spa-like bathroom (complete with storage space and a beverage fridge) is on the other side, featuring a huge shower stall, free-standing soaking tub and dual sinks with waterfall marble countertops. No detail is forgotten in this home as it even has heated towel racks. Through the other side, a walk-in closet the size of a boutique has shoe and bag storage, jewelry storage, plenty of room for hanging items, plus drawer storage in a freestanding island.
Perhaps one of the most interesting features of the house is the men’s closet hidden behind a normal door in the bedroom. It opens to reveal a door that resembles an old-fashioned safe – and it is. The safe opens to a huge closet with drawers, hanging space, a bench, shoe storage and a retro gold chandelier. But it doubles as a safe room with concrete reinforced walls.
Also on the main floor, a moody half bath has dark walls and a chandelier that looks like a tree with a separate water closet, herringbone tiled floors and vanity with mottled wood and a marble top. The second main floor bedroom has a unique ceiling – it’s sky blue with white wainscoting that’s in a pattern of connected octagons. A pocket door reveals a luxe full bathroom and a walk-in closet that has a window, an island, hanging space, drawers, a vanity and a bright rectangular chandelier.
A mudroom near the garage has individual cabinets and drawers (even the dog has its own food and water nook with a built-in faucet) with bench seating, a unique beaded chandelier and access to the back stairs. The back stairs have a unique collection of baskets turned lighting. The laundry room is painted sage green and has a farmhouse-style hand-washing sink, a window view overlooking the pool, ample counter and cabinet space and a television. There’s a complete catering kitchen in the rear, too, with extra large refrigerators, two ovens and an oversized sink.
Upstairs is a teenager’s dream room for inviting friends over. Farmhouse doors open to reveal a loft with two twin beds above and two twin beds below with a window seat that spans all four windows overlooking the front of the house, a cool chandelier made of frosted glass tubes, a seating area and a half bath with wallpaper that looks like shelves of books.
One upstairs bedroom makes the most of its gabled roof with exposed ceiling beams and a coordinating ceiling fan. Two windows let in ample natural light, while the shaker millwork wainscoting is painted a dark green, giving the room a masculine vibe – and it’s big enough for two double beds. By contrast, the girly-girl feel of another upstairs bedroom comes from pink walls with wainscoting and floral corner accents, a spacious window seat with pink pull up drapes. There’s an en suite full bath with floral wallpaper and a romantic marble vanity.
There’s an upstairs combination laundry room-office space-wrapping station with emerald green cabinetry, subway tile floors and a festive bird-patterned wallpaper. The third upstairs bedroom is painted a taupe color, has a large window that lets in lots of natural light and a beaded chandelier. The en suite bathroom has a cobalt blue vanity, a walk-in shower with blue subway tiles and a wavy blue patterned wallpaper.
