And
If you’re still having cerulean visions about the legendary flick The Devil Wears Prada 18 whole years after its release, maybe owning a SoHo loft in a building that was featured in the movie will finally put to rest your incongruous feelings of wanting to be Miranda Priestly and hating her all at once.
Turns out, you can do just that: 56 Crosby Street, apartment 2A, a gem right in the heart of downtown Manhattan, is currently on the market for a price—just shy of $9 million—that the notorious editor in chief of Runway magazine likely wouldn’t even bat an eye at.
The 4,400-square-foot loft, whose listing is held by Compass broker Leonard Steinberg and team, is situated precisely below a unit that served as a filming location for the bachelor pad of designer James Holt (played by Daniel Sunjata)—where Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, has a meet-cute with a journalist. Soft lighting, bookshelves that feel not at all staged, and exposed brick all punctuate the flirty moment.
And though the for-sale apartment didn’t make an appearance in the flick, it has a floor plan identical to its more acclaimed upstairs neighbor and is most definitely not without its unique charms. Let us introduce you to some of them: First off, the building itself is a prewar landmark, circa 1882. The unit, though, has been thoroughly freshened up by architect and designer David Howell. Today, it boasts 16-foot ceilings; oversize, west-facing windows; Corinthian columns; cherry-wood cabinetry framing a luxe, gas-burning fireplace; and a mezzanine level that features perks like a gym and wine room.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of this dreamy residence (with an even dreamier location!) is its glass conservatory, which, in our opinion, should win the award for Best Zoom Call Location. There are also two bedrooms that have no shortage of closet space to go around—enough to hold all of Andy Sachs’s style eras in the film—and bathrooms with alluring elements like a dry sauna, sit-in shower, and heated floors.
Did we mention the kitchen has Gaggenau appliances and Sub-Zero refrigeration? Yeah, it’s hard not to be attracted to all that. The SoHo charmer has been listed as rent-only in the past, but now’s your lucky chance to lock it down for good and enter the exclusive society of New York homeowners.
To curb indecision on the spot, just imagine what Miranda Priestly would say if she knew you were beating around the bush regarding this home purchase: “By all means, move at a glacial pace. You know how that thrills me.”
